This year’s conference continues the collaboration between the College of Education, the MSU College of Education Alumni Association and the Master of Arts in Educational Technology Program, and similar last year, the conference will be FREE OF CHARGE to all attendees. Shelly Sanchez Terrell

The featured presentation at 9 a.m. will be given by Shelly Sanchez Terrell. Shelly is an education thought-provoker, teacher trainer, author, and international speaker. She is the host of American TESOL’s Free Friday Webinars and the Social Media Community Manager for The Consultants-E. She has co-founded and organized the acclaimed educational projects, Edchat,the ELTON nominated ELTChat,The Reform Symposium E-Conference and the ELTON nominated Virtual Round Table language and technology conference. Her prolific presence in the educator community through social media has been recognized by several notable entities, such as The New York Times, Microsoft’s Heroes for Education, and The Bammy Awards.She has also traveled to over 15 countries worldwide to train teachers and consult with organizations such as UNESCO Bangkok, The European Union aPLaNet Project, Cultura Iglesa of Brazil, the British Council in Tel Aviv, IATEFL Slovenia, HUPE Croatia, and the British Council in South East Asia. The 29th Annual MSU College of Education Technology conference will be held on October 27th, 2012 on the beautiful campus of Michigan State University in Erickson Hall from 8:30 am – 3:30 pm. The theme of this year’s conference is open and networked education and it is quite fitting that through a collaboration between the College of Education, the MSU College of Education Alumni Association and the Master of Arts in Educational Technology Program, this year’s conference will be FREE OF CHARGE to all attendees. We are also excited to announce that Dr. Alec Couros will be our keynote speaker for this year’s conference. Alec is an Associate Professor of educational technology and media at the Faculty of Education, University of Regina. He has given hundreds of workshops and presentations, nationally and internationally, on topics such as openness in education, networked learning, social media in education, digital citizenship, and critical media literacy. His graduate and undergraduate courses help current and future educators understand how to use and take advantage of the educational potential offered by the tools of connectivity. Speed Dating with Instructional Technology – Session 3

What: Speed Dating with Instructional Technology
When: Thursday, April 26th, 3:00 – 3:30 pm
Where: 133 Erickson Hall

Event details: Spend 5-7 minutes at three different hands-on presentations learning about technology that can be used for teaching in the classroom, online or in blended learning contexts. Pick a tool to learn about, gather around that presentation, see that demo for 5 – 7 minutes, and then go on to another hands-on presentation. The featured technologies will be: Google Hangouts, ooVoo, and Camtasia Relay. This is the final Speed Dating with Instructional Technology session for the 2012 spring semester. The series will pick up again in the fall with more new technologies to explore in the face-to-face classroom or online classroom environment.

Welcome Back – Fall Semester 2011

The start of fall semester 2011 is quickly approaching and myself and the Technical Interns at Center for Teaching & Technology are working hard to make sure all of the technology classrooms are in working order and all of our equipment is charged up. Over the summer, work was done in rooms 128 and 130 Erickson Hall to improve the rooms. 128 Erickson Hall had minor changes completed including removing the out-of-date mini-dv decks on the computer tables and the unused shelving on the underside of the desks. The room also had an instructor station installed with an Elmo document camera. Finally, an HD Polycom video conferencing system was installed for distance learning opportunities. Room 128 Erickson still has the same number of iMac workstations and movable tables for different classroom configurations. In addition, it also has an Echo360 lecture capture (recording) system. Please email Terri to schedule your course to be recorded or a one time event.

Room 130 Erickson Hall has been completely remodeled. You can see the new look by looking at the photo slideshow below. There are now 8 iMac stations around the rooms, the SMART Board has been moved to the back wall, an HD Polycom video conferencing system has been installed, as well as an Echo360 lecture capture system. For those that were familiar with the large number of iMacs in the old configuration, we have added a MacBook Pro cart that can be checked out through the Technical Interns. It has 10 MacBook Pros and 10 iPad2 tablets. Lastly, the room will also be getting new whiteboards in early fall semester that will cover three walls and include moveable magnetic marker holders and magnets for pinning up documents, posters, or other student work.

Other notable changes in Erickson Hall include a new projector in room 113 (the old one stopped working over the summer), new videos posted by the Technical Interns about how to use the touchscreen interface in the technology classrooms, and software upgrades to Vidyo and Echo360. The how-to video for the technology classrooms can be found on YouTube or can be watched on mobile phones by scanning the QR code with a barcode app on the touchscreen interface in the classrooms. The technical interns also created how-to videos for SMART Boards and M-Audio Digital Audio recorders.

The 2010 Educational Technology Conference presented by the College of Education, MACUL, and the College of Education Alumni Association will be on Saturday, November 13th at Erickson Hall on the campus of Michigan State University. In-service teachers, pre-service interns, administrators, and technology coordinators are encourage to attend this annual event that offers information sessions and workshops covering a range of topics from Google Apps in education to professional development resources for current teachers. As in past years, we have a featured presenter at the beginning of the day and this year we are honored to have Karl Gude from the MSU School of Journalism come talk about his use of Twitter, YouTube, Flickr and cellphones to create unique activities not only for his MSU students, but more importantly for the high school and middle school students he teaches how to visualize information for communication skills and class projects. 26th Annual Technology Conference

The date for the 26th Annual Technology Conference will be Saturday, November 14th, 2009. The call for presentation and workshop proposals will go out after July 1st. As usual, the conference will be focused on K-12 technology in the classroom and in online environments. A new format for the conference will be announced with the launch of the new web site in July.
